Parishes in the name of Marguerite Bourgeoys
Marguerite Bourgeoys was a “daughter of the parish.” Like the Blessed Virgin, she wanted the sisters of her congregation to be free to go wherever there was good to be done. Still today, the sisters reside in the areas where they work. They are close to the people and their reality.
Further, the Blessed Virgin was never cloistered. She did indeed withdraw into an interior solitude, but she never excused herself from any journey on which there was good to be done or some work of charity to perform. We wish to follow her in some way. The rule of charity is the one the Blessed Virgin prescribed to all those who had the honour of following her, even the first Christians, for the love of God and neighbour includes all the law.

Marguerite Bourgeoys is responsible for building the first stone chapel on the Island of Montreal Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel. The chapel built during Marguerite’s time was destroyed by fire. A second chapel was built on the same site in 1771: the very same one we can still visit today.
